Atonement (Tikkun)

A rare look into the lives of ultra-orthodox women, their activities and their grasp of their identities

If I saw someone screaming like my mother, I would think they were mentally disturbed if it wasn't 100% authentic..." So says the son of Rabbinate Lea Kook, a charismatic and controversial ultra-orthodox leader from Tiberius.

This film offers a rare and intimate look into the world of ultra-orthodox women, documenting the Rabbinate intensively for two years. The filmmaker's unprecedented access captures a staunch believer in a prophecy the world refuses to hear, whose cooperation was a form of "Tikkun" (spiritual correction).

By observing her from such a close distance, the viewer is left to confront the controversy surrounding Lea Kook: is her conviction genuine, or is it a calculated performance?
