נשים משפחה

It's the January full moon in Northeast Harbor, a beautiful coastal town in Downeast Maine. Though it's zero degrees outside, warmth and laughter radiate from the bedroom where Tammy is laboring. Tammy and her husband Tim are surrounded by family, friends and their professional midwives as she prepares to give birth to their third child at home.

This is their second homebirth experience for this couple. Each time they were attended by Julie Havener and Chris Yeates of First Light Community Midwives.

The birth is juxtaposed with scenes from a lively pre-natal visit and personal interviews. In these candid discussions, Tammy and Tim address important issues surrounding birth, including fear, personal and cultural expectations around birth, allowing others to help and how homebirth can be healing.

This film shows how quality midwifery care and support--and a woman's intuition about and relationship to her own body--can make all the difference in her birthing experience. And the importance of family, laughter, and surrender.

At Home in Northeast Harbor, Maine shows the intimate nature of this important family event, the challenges, and joys of homebirth.
